Canadians will receive the 1st carbon tax rebate of 2024 starting Monday. Eligible Canadians will receive their first carbon pricing rebate of 2024 from the federal government on Monday. The Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP) is a tax-free amount to help eligible individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing. It consists of a basic amount and a supplement for residents of small and rural communities. About $2,300,000,000 in federal carbon-tax rebates will be paid out to roughly 12,000,000 Canadians.
How Do I Know If I Am Eligible for Carbon Tax Rebate?
Eligibility to get the CAIP incentive amount is simple to determine your carbon tax rebate. If you are a resident of Canada for income tax at the start of the month in which the CRA makes the payment, you are entitled to get the rebate. You must have attained 19 years of age in the months before the CRA makes the four instalment payments. But if you are under 19, you must fulfil any of the conditions listed below.
- You must have been married or had a wife earlier.
- You are presently or previously a parent and live with your child.
What are Climate Action Incentive Payments in 2024?
The rebate amount will vary depending on the family’s condition and the area you live in. Below is the table of the calculation of the CAIP for the base year 2022. If you and your ex-spouse share custody of your child/children, if entitled, you will receive payments equal to 50% of the amount you would have received if the child resided with you full-time. The rural supplement is 10% of the base amount.
